For the words I used Dina Wakely White Paint and a Tim Holtz Stencil. Then I added some Prima Wire Thread with three little bells from Stampin' Up.

Curtain Call Challenge - Burlap Banner

I made this card for the current Curtain Call Challenge - Burlap Banner. Of course, I was inspired by the burlap banner and that orange color in the middle panel. I just cut some burlap into triangles, then cut some decorative paper into slightly bigger triangles and glued them together to make the banner, The green jute string is from Tim Holtz. The patterned papers are all from the Studio Calico - South of Market paper pad. I made the bird from a Media Mixage die. I outlined the card and the bird with an orange Stamper's Big Brush Pen. Finally I added the letters to the banner. It's a simple card, but it was really fun to make and I like how it turned out. Thanks for stopping by!

Here's my card.

For my Day 2 Project I made a mixed media piece on wood. I found the wood at a home under construction in my neighborhood. I used a Tim Holtz mask for the witch and some thick modeling paste for the "frame" of black on the sides. I saw Limor Webber do something like the modelling paste frame in one of her art journals. That's what inspired me to used the modeling paste on the sides. I took some pictures as I made this. Check the out below if you are interested in how this piece was created. Thanks for stopping by and be sure to check back tomorrow for Day 3!

 1. I started with a scrap piece of wood

2. Then I painted it with 3 coats of black gesso.

3. Then I put the Tim Holtz witch mask on it and put a layer of gesso on top.

4. Then I painted the background with Tim Holtz Distress Paints and painted the moon with Tim Holtz crackle paint.

5. Then I added the black modeling paste to the edges to make a frame.

6. The only thing left to do was take off the mask.

Christmas Card Challenges #45

It's time for another challenge over at Christmas Card Challenges. Our challenge this week is to "Layer it Up" meaning to make a card with lots of layers. A while ago I bought this large Jolee embellishment on sale at Michaels. It has lots of layers that give it depth and dimension. To add a little more depth I layered the background papers and the sentiment panel. The sentiment words are EAD Stickers. I inked the edges of the sentiment panel with a chalk ink edger. The Kraft Paper is from Papertrey Ink and the green and red are Stampin' Up.  I can't wait to see what you come up with this week for this fun challenge. Thanks for stopping by!

Unity Friends With Flair Friday

I made this card using a Unity stamp set called Halloween Greetings. To make the background I rubbed some Distress inks on a craft mat, sprayed with water and placed the paper on it. I cut out the witch and colored her with colored pencils and blended with Gamsol. I stamped the witch on the panel and then adhered her on top of the stamp. Then I stamped the sentiment stamp beside her. I also inked the edges and mounted the card front to a black card base. I'm linking my card up today to the Unity FWF Friday Challenge. Thanks for stopping by!

The Mixed Media Monthly Challenge #5 - Ribbon, Twine and Fibers

It's time for our 5th Mixed Media Monthly Challenge!1 This month our challenge is to use Ribbons, Twine or Fiber in your Mixed Media Project. Our sponsor is May Arts and they are generously offering 3 full spools of fall inspired ribbon to our lucky random winner.

This month I made a Halloween canvas. I colored the background with different paints in halloween colors of orange, green, purple and black. I used some stencils and stamps and made sure to cover the sides. I used the spider web stencil designed by Mona Pendleton for My Favorite Things as a main accent. I sprayed adhesive and covered the web with black glitter. I used some gold glitter on the Time Holtz 31 silver numbers and attached them to the canvas with small black brads from Stampin' Up. I also stamped a Tim Holtz spider on the bottom of the "1" in Ranger archival black ink.

I had a bag of glittered Halloween shapes from K&Company that I used for the haunted house, spiders, skulls and accents on the word tiles. I added some black ink and goggley eyes to the spider. To make the word tiles I painted some Tim Holtz grungeboard shapes with Distress Crackle paint in Peeled Paint and then rubbed Distress Stain in Tea Dye on the tiles. The letters are Tim Holtz grungeboard letters that I covered with a mixed purple blend of Stickles. On the bottom of the canvas I added a black web-like trim from May Arts and on top of it I added the gold mesh from May arts (see bottom picture for a close up). I love the texture these fibers add to the canvas.

This canvas was so fun to make. I hope you are inspired to make something really cool this month. I can't wait to see what you come up with!!!
