Christmas Card Challenges #39

It's time for this week's challenge over at Christmas Card Challenges. This week our Challenge theme is everybody's favorite again - "Anything Goes".  Get a head start on your Christmas cards and come join us this week. Thanks for stopping by!

For my card I used a paper pad from DCWV called Winter Blues and a stamp set from Unity Stamp Company called Holly Jolly Christmas. All the papers coordinate so I had fun mixing and matching them. I found a blue ink that was close in color and stamped the trees and the words on the bottom on the patterned papers. I wanted to keep it simple and monochromatic. I used Tim Holtz ribbon and dyed it with the ink pad I used to stamp the images - Blueberry from Papertrey Ink.

I was inspired by the white cookies to make a very white card. First, I die cut the Tim Holtz Snowman out of grunge board, then die cut the JOY word in the Snowman.  I covered the snowman with Tim Holtz Crackle paint to get a matte, textured finish. The scarf and flower on his hat are from Tim Holtz ribbons. To finish it off I added some lace from my stash to the top corner and some buttons to then bottom.

Ellen Hutson Stamps and Dies

I was determined to use my Ellen Hutson stamps and dies that I ordered several months ago before the end of the summer.  With one week left of "freedom" I finally did.  I didn't have a challenge or anything specific in mind so I gave myself my own challenge.  I decided I wanted to use the Bokeh Dots stamp set to make different backgrounds and then I chose 3 colors I wanted to use for my cards. I used the Bokeh Dots stamps and Bold Blooms Stamps and matching dies.

The "thanks" die is from Lawn Fawn. On the first one I used some Prima wire trim. I had a lots of fun with these stamps and dies.  I love how these cards came out. Here's a link to all the Essentials by Ellen items. Thanks for stopping by!

This week I used my new Tim Holtz Bird Crazy Stamps and dies for the first time. I watercolored the birds with my Distress Inks. The background was made from Distress Stains, sprays and inks. The candy cane and santa hat are from the Bird Crazy Accessories stamp set. The sentiment is from a Tim Holtz sentiment stamp set. I added some Tim Holtz green tinsel at the bottom for the birds to stand on.

Unity Friends with Flair Friday

I made this card for the Unity Stamp Company Friends with Flair Friday Challenge. I used the new Woodland Creatures stamp set. I stamped the deer on watercolor paper and colored it with Zig Real Brush Clean Color Markers. I die cut a stitched circle from PTI in green cork and I covered the card with natural cork. I stamped the sentiment onto the cork with Ranger Archival Ink. Thanks for stopping by!

Christmas Card Challenges #35

It's time for this week's challenge over at Christmas Card Challenges. This week our Challenge theme is a photo challenge.  Get a head start on your Christmas cards and come join us this week. I can't wait to see what you make with this non-traditional color scheme. Thanks for stopping by!

This week I made a tag. You can always put a tag on a present or on a card. I created the background using Heidi Swapp Color Shine Sprays and Lindy's Stamp Gang Sprays. I used a Tim Holtz Christmas stencil for the words. The ornament is a grunge board Tim Holtz Die that I painted with with a blueish gray sparkly paint. I colored the ribbon with Tim Holtz Distress Stain in Metallic Silver and added a holiday charm to finish it off.

Mixed Media Monthly Challenge #15 - "Get Texty"

It's time for a new challenge over at the Mixed Media Monthly Challenge!! Our August theme is "Get Texty" - create a mixed media project that contains text.

Our sponsor is one of my favorite online crafty sellers, Ellen Hutson. They are offering a $25 store credit to our lucky random winner. Who wouldn't want to win that? I hope you will play with us this month!

For my project, I made a "texty" wooden home decor sign. I had the design in my head and I just need to pick out the color scheme to get started. I took some photos of the process along the way.

I started with a scrap piece of wood from one of the construction sites in the neighborhood next to mine. It's a great place to find good piece of wood.

I sanded the wood and added a coat of Gesso.

I penciled in the design I wanted for the edges. No rulers were used, I just winged it!

I used several different chipboard letters and spaced out the words and letters so they would fit in the space. Then, I took a photo so I wouldn't forget. This is a great way to use up some extra letters. If you're like me you have a lot of extra letters.

Then, I painted the background using my yellow, blue, turquoise, white, and gray color scheme.

Next, I stamped on the background using this text stamp from Stampers Anonymous in Jet Black Archival Ink.

To finish off the piece I painted the letters and glued them to the wood using Ranger Glue & Seal. And, I used a thick Faber Castell Pit Pen to outline all the edges of the border to give it a more finished look. This was a really fun and easy piece to create. I hope you will come up with an idea and try it out with us this month!
