For my card I used a new IndigoBlu stamp set called Triple Parcel. It's a set of two stamps. One is the single line outline, the second you stamp on top, it has several loose lines. They have several of these stamps and I love all of them. I watercolored using my Tim Holtz Distress Markers, I was inspired to this by a video by Scrap Time Videos, here is a link https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kLJUdSEre_A  The paper is from DCWV. The sentiment stamp is from Hero Arts.

December 2015 Mini Album

I was inspired by my crafty buddy Rachel Kleinman to make a December mini album. She is making a very cool mixed media album. You can check out her web site here www.rwkrafts.com. I thought I would make a mixed media album too, but I decided to do something different in the end. I recorded some of my process in my first every YouTube Video. I'm including the link below.  The video isn't great and it has it's share of flaws. I can't wait to do another one so I can fix some of the things that went wrong in this one.

I used Kaisercraft Holly Jolly papers and die cuts to create the album. The video is here https://youtu.be/4jxN8XqIpQc. It's your chance to hear my southern accent if you haven't ever met me in person.

For my card, I added a solid orange panel of Tim Holtz Kraft Core card stock. Then I layered a piece of Tim Holtz Seasonal Kraft Core card stock and sanded it a little so the images would show. The pumpkin is a Tim Holtz die that I cut with grunge board. I covered the pumpkin with several Distress Inks and paints and then added some glitter. The greenery on the bottom is from another Tim Holtz die. The sentiment is from the Tim Holtz Occasions Small Talk. Mixed Media Monthly Challenge #18 - Texture

It's time for a new challenge over at the Mixed Media Monthly Challenge. This month our theme is "Texture." Just make a project using some texture - easy peasy.

Our sponsor is the amazing online craft retailer IndigoBlu. They have given us a FAB prize package to give our random winner. Trust me, this is the month you want to play!! IndigoBlu was also kind enough to send the members of our design team an amazing box of goodies to play with. I have used many of them on my project today.

I made a Christmas plaque in non-traditional colors on a piece of MDF covered with burlap.

It took me awhile to get to the finished product and as can happen, things didn't go exactly according to plan. I took a few pictures along the way.

I started with the plain board and painted it with IndigoBlu white Gesso.

Then I used some IndigoBlu Christmas Stamps from the "Looks like Rain, Deer"
Stamp set to start my background.

Then I used a brayer to add some acrylic paint to my IndigoBlu Merry Christmas Sentiment stamps. I used IndigoBlu English Cottage Artist Acrylic Paint in Wimberry Pie.

After stamping the sentiment I decided to add some more texture by using the IndigoBlu Texture Stencil with modeling paste that I colored with the same paint. Then I used the left over paste to make a frame around the edge, something I really like to do.

At this point, things began to go downhill. I decided I wanted the sentiment to be darker so I got a very thin paint brush and  began going over the letters. When I got to the "m" it all ran together and I could not figure out how to salvage it.

Meanwhile, I had painted some paper with the English Cottage Paints in the Wimberry Pie and Townhouse Teal. I had stamped the leaf from the "Big Holly" Clear stamp set on Townhouse Teal and Wimberry Pie. I fussy cut the Holly in the Townhouse Teal and the berries in the Wimberry Pie and paper pieced them together.

This is when I quit taking pictures. Let me explain how I got the final product. I covered the entire front of the panel with a coat of the white Gesso working around the textured areas so the inside is lighter than the outside. Once it dried you could still see some of the purple sentiment through it, but I felt like it looked a little like a shadow so I didn't add any more Gesso. I stamped the sentiment again and made sure to press hard. Then I added some glitter to my holly and berries and all around the textured edges. Finally, I decoupaged the holly berries over the sentiment. I kind of like the final product - it's a little messy, but kind of pretty and very sparkly.

I hope you will join us this month. I can't wait to see what amazingly textured projects everyone will create!! Thanks for stopping by!
