JOY Home Decor Sign

Today I'm sharing a quick and fun home decor project.  I love making things from the stash of wood blocks I have in my garage that I collect from the new home construction sites in the back of my neighborhood.

First, I painted it a Christmas red. Then I added the J and Y burlap letters and then centered the large burlap flower between them. The burlap flower is by Canvas Corp and I bought it at Walmart. I finished it off with a pretty red flower by Maya Road. I think it's a pretty rustic holiday decoration.

Embroidery Hoop Home Decor

I created this pretty wall hanging from the left over supplies in my fun Canvas Corp Brands box full of crafty goodies that I got for last month's Mixed Media Monthly Challenge. I had colored their a page of their awesome Tattered Angels "Blooms" Mixed Media Origins Collection Paper with their Glimmer Mists. I just dipped my paint brush in to the container. It worked perfectly. No pilling or warping of the this heavy duty paper. It was so much fun to color with my brush.

I found this embroidery hoop and put some Natural Canvas from Canvas Corp Brands in it. Then I fussy cut the rose and bulbs out of the Origins paper and adhered them to the canvas with Ranger Glue & Seal. Then I used a hot glue gun to glue down a ring of Hot Pink Hemp Rope Cord around the edge of the hoop. I love how the cord matched the color of the Pink Poodle Glimmer Mist so well.

This was a fun and easy project. I really didn't know how I would use the images on the Origins paper and then I thought of this. It was a perfect solution. Thanks for stopping by!!

CREATE Wood Sign

Today I'm sharing this fun CREATE wood home decor sign I made from a reclaimed piece of wood that I got from the dumpster at a new home construction site. The neighborhood behind mine is constantly building new houses and I'm always rummaging through the dumpsters for small pieces of wood that I can decorate.
To make this sign I painted the wood with a coat of gesso. Then I followed the step-by-step process of how to create a Concrete effect that came with my Tattered Angels Naturally Aged Paint System Architecture.

First, I painted it with the Tan paint and dried it with a heat gun to speed up the process.

Then, I sprayed on the Boardwalk Glimmer Mist and blotted and dried with heat gun.

After that I sprayed it with Valencia Chalkboard spray then blotted and dried with heat gun.

Finally, for the last step, I sprayed with Chalk Chalkboard spray and blotted until I was happy with it.

I love how it takes shape so quickly and looks so cool. But, I wanted to add some colors that matched my CREATE colors so I sprayed one more time with my favorite Glimmer mists colors Pink Poodle and Aquamarine and my Plain Jane Simply Sheer Matte Mist Watercolor spray in Sweet Violet. These are also the sprays I used to color my burlap CREATE letters that I on the front of the wood. I was thrilled with the end result. It almost looks like a colorful marble effect.

Here is the final sign with the burlap letters that I colored with the 3 sprays shown in the picture above. I think it makes a fun rustic or shabby chic addition to a craft room or creative space. I took this photo outside because I was having trouble getting the colors to show up during the time of day I was taking this photo.

Here are some close-ups that really show the paint effects and colors. I did it on all sides of the wood.

Mixed Media Monthly Mid-Month Inspiration Post

I made a second project for the Mixed Media Monthly Challenge October Mood Board Challenge.

I used a Stampotique Witch stamp  and Spider Web stamp to create this card. I blended the background using various Tim Holtz Distress Inks. Then, I stamped the Stampotique Spider Web Stamp in Wilted Violet. I watercolored the Witch with Distress Markers. Then, I sprayed water through the Tim Holtz Bat Stencil.  For the sentiment I used Black Soot Distress Ink and a Tim Holtz Stencil. Finally, I added a little Tim Holtz Industrial Sticker Spider to the spider web. I hope you will join our October Challenge and I can't wait to see what you create!

Christmas Card Challenges #44 - Decorations

It's time for another challenge over at Christmas Card Challenges. This week we have a Word Prompt Challenge -  Decoration.  What a fun theme. I can't wait to see what you create!

I had the perfect stamp for this. It was part of my new PaperArtsy JOFY #47 stamp set. I love this fund cupcake holder filled with holiday decorations. I used Distress Inks (Salty Ocean and Squeezed Lemonade) to create the background and I watercolored with Distress Markers to color in the images. It ended up being a fun and colorful card. Thanks for stopping by!

Mixed Media Monthly Challenge #29 - Mood Board

It's time for another challenge over at the Mixed Media Monthly Challenge. We have a fun Halloween and fall inspired mood board. Our sponsor this month is Stampotique Originals. They generously sent our design team stamps and we had so much fun creating with their fun and quirky stamps. They are offering our random winner a $30 gift certificate to their online store.

For this challenge I decorated a haunted house I bought last year at Wal-Mart. Stampotique had some awesome stamps for decorating my house. Here are some photos of the process. I painted the house with Tim Holtz paints, then stamped the roof with the spiderweb stamp using Tim's Pewter Distress Paint and the house was stamped with the Never-ending Wall stamp in Archival ink. Here are the stamps I used on this house.

Here is the finished house. I added some Ferro Glitter glue on my purple paint to add some texture. I also added some DecoArt glitter glue to the roof for the same reason.

I colored the pumpkins with Distress Markers and added Glossy Accents on top of them.

I also added Glossy Accents to the skull.
