This week I made a tag. You can always put a tag on a present or on a card. I created the background using Heidi Swapp Color Shine Sprays and Lindy's Stamp Gang Sprays. I used a Tim Holtz Christmas stencil for the words. The ornament is a grunge board Tim Holtz Die that I painted with with a blueish gray sparkly paint. I colored the ribbon with Tim Holtz Distress Stain in Metallic Silver and added a holiday charm to finish it off. 

The Mixed Media Monthly Challenge #5 - Ribbon, Twine and Fibers

It's time for our 5th Mixed Media Monthly Challenge!1 This month our challenge is to use Ribbons, Twine or Fiber in your Mixed Media Project. Our sponsor is May Arts and they are generously offering 3 full spools of fall inspired ribbon to our lucky random winner. 

This month I made a Halloween canvas. I colored the background with different paints in halloween colors of orange, green, purple and black. I used some stencils and stamps and made sure to cover the sides. I used the spider web stencil designed by Mona Pendleton for My Favorite Things as a main accent. I sprayed adhesive and covered the web with black glitter. I used some gold glitter on the Time Holtz 31 silver numbers and attached them to the canvas with small black brads from Stampin' Up. I also stamped a Tim Holtz spider on the bottom of the "1" in Ranger archival black ink. 

I had a bag of glittered Halloween shapes from K&Company that I used for the haunted house, spiders, skulls and accents on the word tiles. I added some black ink and goggley eyes to the spider. To make the word tiles I painted some Tim Holtz grungeboard shapes with Distress Crackle paint in Peeled Paint and then rubbed Distress Stain in Tea Dye on the tiles. The letters are Tim Holtz grungeboard letters that I covered with a mixed purple blend of Stickles. On the bottom of the canvas I added a black web-like trim from May Arts and on top of it I added the gold mesh from May arts (see bottom picture for a close up). I love the texture these fibers add to the canvas.

This year I have a theme to my projects - it's called use what you have and keep it simple. For those of you who don't know me, I've been busy building a house this year. The process started last February and construction started in early June. I sold my old house and moved in with my parents last May. So, I have not been nearly as crafty as I like to be this year, I just haven't had the time or the space. 

I haven't purchased any new holiday stamps, just a couple of new 6x6 papers pads, Distress Glitters and some clearance embellishments when I was in London on vacation. So, if you are overloaded with supplies, I challenge you to start using up your stash instead of always buying the latest and greatest. I'm going to show you some quick and easy projects over the next 12 days that you can make using things you already own.

Today I'm having part 1 of a 2 part project. I'm sort of obsessed with using up items I already own. So, I had a 6x6 Lawn Fawn paper pad called FaLaLa that I bought last year and never used. I decided I would put together the patterns that went together and cut out panels and put them together on cards. When I cut them to 5.5 inches, it left 1/2 inch strips that I used for accents. For the sentiments I just found a simple sentiment that fit in my oval punch and accented it with my scalloped oval punch using coordinating papers. These two are very similar so I chose to share them today. I used a pretty pleated ribbon from Stampin' Up in Baha Blue to dress these cards up. Tomorrow I'll show my bolder colored cards. Today it's all about PEACE. The sentiment is from a Hero Arts Stamp Set.

Pink Birthday Window Card

I made this card for the current A Blog Named Hero Challenge #2 Cards With a View. I created the window for the card with the scallop circle Spellbinders Nestabilities Die. I stamped the cupcake on a white circle and adhered it to the inside of the card. Then I stamped the sentiment and added the scallop dotted ribbon to the top and bottom of the card with double sided tape. Thanks for stopping by!

I made this card for the current Play Date Cafe Color Challenge - to  use Harbor, Raspberry and Honey Mustard. The stamp is from Imaginisce and it's called Lucy Bird. Lawnscaping Challenge #21 - Thanks!!

I made this card for the current Lawnscaping Challenge #21 - Thanks. I used the typewriter from the Lawn Fawn Just My Type stamp set and the Thanks Friend is from the Lawn Fawn Critters in the Forest stamp set. I thought I would do this card in Basic Gray instead of black so the ink is gray and I had this striped gray ribbon that I thought I would use since I was working with gray. Thank U with Gel-a-tins Stamps

I was so excited to get my new Gel-a-tins Stamps in today. I am on their design team and my term starts in November!! I used a set called You Spin Me Round and the Thank U is from a set called Many Thanks. I love circles and this set has tons of different types and sizes of circles that are so much fun to layer. Cowgirl Howdy!

I've been working on this card for a while now. I made the fence from denim ribbon and inked the edges and it sat on my table for 2 weeks. Last night I finally colored the cute cowgirl with Copics. This morning I added everything else. I had some yellow pompom trim sitting out and I thought of making a sun with it. I decided this card would fit as an entry into this months Hero Arts Challenge - to create a scene. Thanks for taking a look!

I made this card for the current Cupcake Inspirations Challenge. It's a back to school theme and since I don't really have any school or kids type stamps, I decided to use this paper I got in my Studio Calico Kit of the Month that has some of the reds and blues from the inspiration photo. Letter Stickers - Mini Market - Blue & Cream (October Afternoon)
Ribbon - Basic Gray (Stampin Up)
Circle Punches (Stampin Up)
Distresses Tool (Zutter)


Instructions
1. Create card from card stock - finished size is 5 x 5
2. Cut 5 x 5 and 4.75 x 4.75 panels, distress and adhere to card
3. Create Baby Rattle using circle punches
4. Add paper strips and ribbon to rattle and adhere to card with foam tape
5. Attach letter stickers to card

I made this card for this weeks Lawnscaping Challenge the theme is Let's Party so for this one I went with a happy graduating Owl inviting people to his graduation party. It's fun to play with Lawn Fawn critters!
