Mixed Media Monthly Challenge #20 - Time Flies

Happy New Year!! I hope you all have a wonderful 2016.

It's time for a new challenge over at the Mixed Media Monthly Challenge. This month our theme is "Time Flies."  I can't believe is already 2016, time does fly!!!

Our Guest Designer this month is the fabulous mixed media artist Cheryl Boglioli. Cheryl works for many different manufacturers and she is generously giving our random winner a prize package full of items donated by various companies like The Crafters Workshop, Art-C, Thermo Web, etc... This time I don't have a tutorial because I actually started this project about a year ago. I used the Tim Holtz clock and painted it blue. Then, I painted it with blue glitter paint. I loved the effect, it sort of looks like enamelware. I painted the inside with white Gesso and and dyed the bottle brush trees with Distress Sprays. I've actually had the clock with the trees and that little cream color deer sitting on the bathroom counter of my craft room for a year!

When we decided on this theme, I thought it would be the perfect use of my clock. So I dyed a third tree and pulled out the aqua color deer because I thought my little scene needed more things to add interest. To get them to stand up I put Wendy Vecchi embossing paste that I colored with PaperArtsy paint in the Granny Apple color on the bottom of the clock. I placed the trees and deer and made sure the clock was sitting upright so nothing would fall over until everything dried in the embossing paste "grass."

I wasn't happy with the white Gesso background so I painted it with a coat of Sparkle Mod Podge. I loved the sparkle, but I still thought it was too white so I added several colors of Distress inks with an ink blending tool to the sides and the back. You can still see the glitter, but the background has a little more depth. Finally, I added a printed vellum banner that I've had in my stash forever and a little wooden Studio Calico bird to the background. I colored the bird with Yellow DecoArt Media spray.

It was extremely hard to take the picture with the glass on the clock. This was the best I could do. Also, I got several of my ideas for this clock from a video I watched by Christy Tomlinson. Here is a link to that video.

5 for 5 Halloween - Purple

I made a Halloween card using those silly Bird Crazy Stamps and dies and sentiments. I also used the Tim Holtz houses die. I colored the background and the houses with Distress Inks. I colored the witch bird with Zig Real Brush Clean Color Markers.

Mixed Media Monthly Challenge #8

Happy New Year!! It's time for another challenge at the Mixed Media Monthly Challenge Blog. Our theme for this month is "Something New for the New Year." Just do something new in your project - use a new product, try a new technique, make a new kind of project etc...Just think outside of your normal box and go have fun making something!!

For my project I made a 6x6 canvas. I created the background using my new Pan Pastels. I ordered them over Thanksgiving and finally got a chance to use them. I tried to emboss on the canvas before adding the Pan Pastels, but I'm not a great embosser and all I have is the Ranger Heat Tool which is not good for heat embossing. Basically, most of the embossing ink didn't heat up even though I held the heat tool over for what seemed like forever. So, in the end, I just put on the Pan Pastels and they smeared some of the embossing ink that wasn't dry and it kind of made for an interesting background.

I placed the clouds on the canvas a couple times to make sure the shape was good and the clouds fit within the tree branches. I adhered the burlap clouds with hot glue.

I die cut the tree which is a Karen Burniston die from grunge paper. Then I put modeling pasted on the trunk and limbs to add some texture, painted it and highlighted it with a Stampers Big Brush pen. You can really see all the details in the picture. The die comes with some clouds so I die cut the clouds with burlap and colored the burlap with Pine Needles and Antique Linen and Bundled Sage Distress Stains. I used hot glue to adhere some Prima Marketing and My Minds Eye buttons to the tree. I also outlined and colored some of the buttons using different Stampers Big Brush Pens. To make the sun stand out more I colored it with some Stampers Big Brush Pens and I inked the edges of the canvas Ranger Archival Ink in Watering Can.

Finally, I got a set of little letter stamps at Hobby Lobby. They're so cute. I love how the words are not perfect when you stamp with the individual letters. I stamped lots of inspirational words on the bottom of the canvas with Black Staz On  Ink.

And here's the final product. I love using the Pan Pastels, they were really fun and easy to work with. And the Karen Burniston All Seasons Tree die was great and has TONS of possibilities. It also comes with leaf, snowflake, and flower dies so you can create a tree for any season.

For my Day 4 Project I'm sharing a tag I made for a Halloween Prima Doll Stamp Tag Swap. I used a Julie Nutting Stamp set for Prima called Little Miss Witchy Poo. I used Distress Stains for the background and Dylusions gray spray ink for the web stencil. Then I covered the tag with Sparkle Glitter. It's very shiny in person. I paper pieced her outfit the bats and the pumpkin. Then I added Prima orange trim on the bottom and Tim Holtz tinsel trim on the top of the tag. I adhered the bats and the sentiment with foam tape. For my Day 3 Project I made a banner that says SPOOKY. I cut the triangles from chipboard and colored them with Tim Holtz Distress Stain. The I alternated stamping the Dylusions birds on each one. Finally, inked the edges. To make the circles I die cut two sizes of Sizzix circles in Halloween Papers from An Eerie Tale. To make the letters I painted them with black Gesso (they were zebra striped, I found them on clearance at Hobby Lobby) and then I covered them with Sparkle Mod Podge. I cut holes in the triangles and put black tulle through the holes to hang the banner. It was really fun and easy to make. Thanks for stopping by and be sure to check back tomorrow for Day 4!

Eclectic Paperie: January eTeam Picks Challenge - Hope

I made this tag for the January eTeam Pick Challenge. The challenge was to make a project representing Hope for 2014. What a fun challenge! I have a stash of tags I make after I spray my art journal pages and this was one of them. I used Tim Holtz Distress Stains, Crackle Paints and Distress Glitters in Victorian Velvet and Antique Linen. To make the HOPE letters I covered Tim Holtz Alphabet Grunge Letters with Antique Linen Crackle Paint and then covered them with Glossy Accents. I colored the doily and ribbon with Victorian Velvet Distress Stain. The key is a Tim Holtz grunge piece that I covered with Victorian Velvet Distress Stain and then Distress Glitter in Antique Linen.

My good friend Rachel from RWKrafts, gave me some of those cute tiny DCWV kraft envelopes. I used the number 2 because that is the street number of my new house. I'm also hoping to find the "key" to  "bliss" in 2014. Finally, I'm hoping and dreaming of lots of "inspiration" for 2014 since 2013 was mainly spent planning and overseeing the building of my house, traveling and dealing with other "issues", it left little time or space for creativity. So, I hope I'll get some "inspiration" to help me be very creative in 2014.

The Play Date Cafe 161

Welcome to our new color challenge at The Play Date Cafe. This week we have some fun, funky and festive colors - Evergreen, Gum Drop and Candy Cane Red. I just love these colors and I decided to make a funky and bright card this week. My colors aren't spot on, but I can say I was definitely inspired by this awesome color story.

I die cut the tree from grunge paper and colored it with a new Tim Holtz Distress stain - Pickled Raspberry. Then I added various red brads for ornaments. There is more contrast between the pink and red in person. The papers are Snow Day from Crate Paper and the sentiment is a SRM Sticker. I had those bright red snowflakes in my stash.

I'm also entering this card into the Cupcake Craft Challenge. Their theme this week is Merry Christmas so this fits the bill.

Sprinkle Love

I made this tag for the Tim Holtz Compendium of Curiosities 2 - Challenge 3 - Marbled Stains at Studio L3. The sponsor for the challenge this week is Eclectic Paperie - a super online store that I buy from frequently and highly recommend! This technique is described on p.46 and it's very easy and fun to do. To get my marbled stain background I used Spun Sugar, Milled Lavender, Tumbled Glass, Faded Denim and Dusty Concord Distress Stains. I also used Dyan Reaveley Dylusions stamps - Bags of Bunting, Birds on a Wire, and Ruby Rainbow.

I thought the background of blues & purples looked like a rainy day sky so I decided to use a "rain" theme. I stamped the raindrops in Memento ink in London Fog. The raindrop is from a Paper Smooches stamp set. The twine is Wisteria Wonder from Stampin' Up. The words are from Tim Holtz Chit Chat. I colored the images with PrismaColor pencils and blended with Gamsol. Thanks for taking a look!

More Fun With Dylusions!!

I made these two card with my Dyan Reaveley Dylusions stamps. I will be teaching a class where we make both of the cards May 19 at 10:30 am at The Stamping Place in West Columbia. The one with the purple background uses Distress Inks on the background and the one with the polka dots uses Distress Stains for the background.

I colored all the images with my PrismaColor Pencils and blended them with Gamsol. It's so much fun using these bright colors with these fun and funky images. The stamp sets I used were Doolally Dorris, Lovestruck Lucy, Quintessential Quotes, The Right Words.
