For my card I used a large wooden stamp that I found on clearance at my LSS. They are discontinuing all wood stamps so I couldn't resist this cute Christmas vignette. I stamped it in Memento Tuxedo Black and colored it with Copic Markers. I think it needed a little bling so I pulled out my Stickles and went a little Stickles crazy. Now it has plenty of bling!! For my card I used a Penny Black Slapstick Gingerbread man stamp on Early Espresso paper from Stampin' Up. The red paper is Real Red and the ink for the sentiment is Early Espresso by Stampin' Up.  The sentiment stamp is from Hero Arts. I stamped the Gingerbread man with White Hero Arts Pigment Ink. I just got that ink and it worked pretty good on this dark paper.  Finally, I added some red dots for his buttons. It was a simple and fun card to make. Thanks for stopping by!

For my card I used a car carrying a tree image and a sentiment in a banner stamps all from Hero Arts. I colored the car with Copics and added some sparkly Wink of Stella to the tree. The blue paper is from DCWV and the bottom is white glitter paper. The red dot background is from Paptertrey, Inc. Thanks for stopping by!

Howdy Cactus

I'm entering this card into the current Lawnscaping Challenge - to add Dimension and Virginias View Challenge - Layers and Dimension. I used a new to me Lawn Fawn stamp set and dies called Stuck on You.  I created the background using Pan Pastels and die cut it with a stitched circle die. I was hoping to get the feel of a beautiful Arizona sunset that I've heard about and seen in pictures. I used PTI inks in Mowed Lawn, Hibiscus Burst and Chocolate Brown. I adhered the flowers to the cacti with foam tape and adhered the cacti to the background with foam tape to add dimension. To add a little more dimension and color I added a panel of DCWV Burlap paper. Thanks for stopping by!

 

Christmas Card Challenges #18

I made my first every Hanukkah card. I made the patterned background by repeatedly stamping the star and Dreidel in blue ink on the Stampin' Up Bashful Blue card stock. Then I stamped the Menora in Stampin' Up Not Quite Navy Ink and colored in the candle flames with a Copic marker. I stamped Happy Hanukkah in Stampin' Up Marina Mist ink. I also inked the edges of the white panel and the outside edges of the card. I matted the white square with a panel of Marina Mist and Not Quite Navy.  The stamps are all from the Lawn Fawn stamp set called Happy Hanukkah. 

Friends With Flair Friday at Unity

For  my Unity Friends with Flair Entry this week, I made another mini journal page from my Faber-Castell Design Memory Craft Mini Journal. I created a brayered background using my PaperArtsy Fresco Paints in Slate, Turquoise and White. Then, I stamped a Unity Susan Weckesser background stamp on left side in Watering Can Archival Ink. The flow r is from the new Unity Lazy Daisy set and the sentiment is from Unity Donna Downey Empowered Words. The flower was stamped in Leaf Green and Red Geranium Archival Inks and the sentiment was stamped in Versafine Black.

After I stamped the red flower I stamped it a few times over the background stamp to add a little color to he other side of the page. Then I inked the edges of the page with the Red Geranium Archival Ink and smudged the edges with my fingers. To make the flower stand out more, I outlined it with a Faber Castell Pitt Pen. To finish it off I sprayed it a few times with Dylusions White Spray ink and I put my finger in the Red Geranium Ink and smeared some of the red color around the page. I love how fun it is to make the quick page in this mini journal. It makes it easy to experiment with new techniques.  Thanks for stopping by!

The Mixed Media Monthly Challenge #11 - April Showers

It's a new month so it's time for another The Mixed Media Monthly Challenge. This month our challenge theme is "April Showers." Our sponsor this month is DecoArt. They make amazing products for mixed media in their Media line. They were nice enough to send all the members of the design team products to use on our products this month. I was VERY impressed with everything I used - especially at how well the crackle paste worked (I've had bad crackle experiences in the past). I started out with a scrap piece of wood that was about 5.5 x 5.25. 

 Then I covered it with DecoArt Gesso

 When the Gesso dried I brushed on some Primary Cyan Fluid Acrylic Paint

When the paint dried I followed the directions on the Crackle Paste and covered it with Matte Medium before I used the Crackle Paste.

When the DecoArt Matte Medium dried I added some of the Decoart Dioxozine Purple to the White DecoArt Crackle Paste to make a light Purple color for my Crackle Paste.

 This is what the DecoArt Crackle Paste looked like right after I covered the surface.

 Here's what it looked like about an hour later when it was dry. Awesome!! You could see the blue color beneath it.

 Then I added some script from a The Crafters Workshop Stencil with DecoArt Black Media Mister.

When the words dried I sprayed the whole piece with the DecoArt Media Primary Cyan Mister and the DecoArt Media Turquoise Shimmer Mist.

I wanted to show more of the background so I sanded it so the purple would show through. Then, I added some dots through a Dylusions Stencil using DecoArt Silver Metallic Paint and Turquoise Shimmer Spray and Turquoise Interference (which adds an iridescent quality).

To finish the piece I found some Lime Green DecoArt Craft Twinklers in my stash and I added it to each "rain drop" for some sparkle. Here is a close up of the rain drops.

Then I used this 12 x 12 DecoArt Americana bird stencil that I found at Michaels to make the bird. I colored the bird with DecoArt Fluid Acrylic Paint.

To finish off the piece I stamped a sentiment from a Tim Holtz stamp set, cut it out and mounted it on a piece of corrugated cardboard that I covered in chalk paint and I added another layer of cardstock that I painted with the DecoArt Fluid Acrylic Paint. I also stamped and cut out the umbrella from a Dylusions stamp set and colored it with the Deocart Fluid Acrylics. Finally, I knew I wanted the bird to be standing on something with some dimension and when I was at Hobby Lobby I found DecoArt Americana Writers. They have special tips so you can outline or write with them. I used a black one to make the wire for the bird and it very dimensional.
